Best Buy, the world’s largest consumer electronics retailer, is creating more than 100 jobs in Southampton. The jobs will be created in time for the opening of its first store in Hedge End Retail Park in Spring 2010.
Positions will be available for all ages and abilities, ranging from store managers and department heads to sales consultants and cashiers.
In-store recruits will be enrolled at Best Buy’s ‘Blue Shirt Academy’ where, over a nine week period, they will receive training on the latest consumer technology and become specialists in their own fields.
Susan Finlay, General Manager, Best Buy Southampton, said:
“We’re looking for good communicators who are keen to learn and are passionate about technology. With our ‘Blue Shirt’ training programme, we aim to create a new breed of technology experts who are focused on customer service. If this sounds like a challenge for you, then please get in touch.”
The new Best Buy store in Southampton will showcase up-to-the-minute technology, including visual and audio equipment, computing technology, entertainment devices, mobiles, music, movies and games.
Paul Antoniadis, CEO of Best Buy Branded Operations, said:
“We are really pleased to begin the recruitment drive for our first stores and are looking forward to meeting the talented individuals that we hope will apply for the thousands of opportunities we plan to create across the UK. We’re very proud of our ‘Blue Shirt’ training programme, a fun 9 week course, which encourages the development of really enthusiastic and customer focused employees.”
Over the next five years, Best Buy will create up to 8,000 jobs nationwide. Best Buy’s first store will open in Thurrock, followed by Southampton in Spring 2010.
